Replace your worn out SU or Stromberg carburettor with these throttle bodies
Using our range of SF style throttle bodies along with SU mounting adaptors you can replace many versions of the SU and Stromberg carburettors
This listing is for 1 x 40mm SF Throttle Body and Adaptor
( Throttle body includes injector mounting and mini fuel rail as shown in pictures but not the injector )
PLEASE NOTE THESE ADAPTOR HAVE DIAGONAL STUD SPACING OF 76MM
AS SUCH THESE FIT SU HS4 AS DIRECT BOLT ON.
FOR SU H4 AND STROMBERG CD150 YOU WILL NEED TO ELONGATE THE HOLES ON THE ADAPTOR TO MATCH YOUR SMALLER STUD SPACING -- PLEASE REMEMBER THE BODIES WILL THEN BE ON A DIAGONAL ANGLE AS THE H4 / CD150 HAVE THE MOUNTING BOLTS VERTICAL RATHER THAN DIAGONAL
( STUD SPACING USED ON SU H4 / STROMBERG CD150 = 70MM STUD SPACING USED ON SU HS4 = 76MM )
Throttle Body Lengths ( Measured Front face to Manifold face )
Throttle Body without SU adaptor = 65mm
Throttle Body and SU adaptor assembly = 95mm
Dimensions do not include Injector / Fuel Rail over hang - typically 20 to 30mm depending on injector type fitted
Sizes available in this range
40mm ( 1.5 Inch ) to suit SU 1.5 inch carbs such as HS4 or the Stormberg CD150
(Has the same diagonal bolt spacing as the 4 bolt versions but only uses 2 bolts for fixing )
45mm ( 1.75 Inch ) to suit SU 1.75 inch carbs such as HIF44, HIF6, H6, HS6, or the Stormberg CD175
The 45mm version can also be used for the SU 2 inch carbs such as H8, HS8
For the vast majority of SU vehicles the 45mm version will still flow enough air to support vehicles originally fitted with 2 inch carburettors
( We can source 2 inch versions but these will have an extended lead time as they are machined to order )
Throttle Body Size versus BHP
1 x 40mm body will typically flow enough air to support upto 92 BHP
2 x 40mm body will typically flow enough air to support upto 185 BHP
1 x 45mm body will typically flow enough air to support upto 115 BHP
2 x 45mm body will typically flow enough air to support upto 230 BHP
So a pair of 45mm bodies will still support power requirements for most engines originally fitted with a pair of 2 inch carburettors
Each throttle body has a tab type lever to mate and operate the next body.
For vehicles where the spacing is too large you will need make up a simple link or rod arrangement.
In many cases you can remove the linkage and rods from the existing carburettors and refit to these throttle bodies with some minor modification.
As there are so many different interconnecting links used on different vehicles we cannot advise which original linkage will fit but you should not find it a difficult task to adapt as required.
